Skills local employers want
I've found an answer to a question I asked earlier about employers ("I really want to know: What kind of professional skills are employees lacking?").
Actually, the article I found, "Seeking good workers" at the Northern Nevada Business Weekly, doesn't specify "professional skills." It does address the apparent contradiction between rising unemployment and employers continuing to complain they don't have qualified applicants.
According to the article, employers are still having trouble finding applicants with skills for the following jobs:
I wish the reporter had asked employers about the wages they pay. Maybe all the good sales clerks, telemarketers and warehouse workers are working in jobs in which they can make more money.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't "information technology" the only item on the list that would be considered "professional"? The article says people with those skills are nervous about moving here for fear there aren't enough such jobs for them to move around or up in this area. "MKchick" commented recently on the Reno Realty Blog, "I get the calls weekly offering high salaries to move back, and absolutely zero job prospects here in Reno since we moved here last year from SF." Now that I know what skills local employees lack, tell me again why EDAWN is trying to lure professionals here from the Bay Area?
