For those who love to hate the Reno Gazette-Journal
While doing some online research for an upcoming post (ahem), I came across an interesting discussion about another Gannett paper, the Indianapolis Star. Its publisher is Barbara Henry, a former Renoite who has moved on to bigger and better—well, bigger—well, other—things.
First I came across an entry in an independent blog about Gannett describing praise from Sue Clark-Johnson (another former RGJ person, I believe) about a column Henry wrote recently.
If you go to these links, you have to read the comments that follow them because they say the opposite of the original pieces.
What struck me about the discussion were the similarities between Henry's current paper and the RGJ, complete with "moms.com," a new emphasis on communities/neighborhoods, a switch to paid obituaries and criticisms of the quality from readers.
