If I were queen, I'd speed up WinCo's checkout

If I were queen—
  • Teams of at least two people would be required if purchasing more than three items at WinCo Foods. Single persons would not be allowed to buy more than three items.
  • People with small orders would not be given special treatment. WinCo is a discount warehouse store and does not have express checkout. People who don't want to wait behind customers with carts full of groceries should shop at Costco. Costco doesn't have express checkout? I guess I've made my point.
  • One team member would be allowed to stand at the check-writing stand, watch the checker scan the items and pay the bill. If paying by check, that person would have to have the date, payee (WinCo) and signature completed by the time the checker had a total. If not paying by check, the customer would have to have cash, a debit card or a "food stamp" card out and ready to use by the time the total was reached.
  • The other team member would have to begin bagging the order as soon the checker started scanning it.
  • People who wait until all their groceries have been scanned and paid for before they start bagging them would be thrown out of the store without their groceries.
  • People would be allowed to sort their groceries as they bagged them as long as sorting them did not slow them down.
  • Stores would be plastered with signs saying "No credit cards accepted," and announcements saying the same thing would be made over a loudspeaker every 15 minutes. Customers who arrive at a checkstand with no means of payment besides a credit card would be removed promptly (without explanation or argument).
  • People who leave their carts next to the checkstand, blocking the customers behind them, would be thrown out of the store without their groceries. (Hint for the oblivious: The checkstands are designed to hold two orders at once, so the customer behind you needs to get through to start bagging his or her order. As decreed above, the person behind you needs to begin bagging as soon as the checker starts putting his or her groceries on the belt.)
  • WinCo would paint "parking" spaces for two carts at the end of each checkstands so customers would know carts are supposed to be pointed at the checkstand, not parked across the end (where is the other customer supposed to put his or her cart when you do that?).
  • Slow or stupid people would not be allowed to shop at WinCo unless accompanied by a team who could follow the previous rules.

One small addition to these wonderful points: WinCo gives a bag credit if you bring your own bag, but it is based on the number of bags *you* bring, not the number of bags you save them as it should be. I have a very large LL Bean canvas bag and get one bag credit, while saving them the cost of 14 - 15 bags a week.

You're kidding! I have to admit I wasn't aware they had an incentive to bring bags. There aren't any signs, are there? Luckily you have motives other than a bag credit to bring yours.

Have you noticed that the cashiers at Trader Joe's forget to give you a ticket for the bring-your-own-bag drawing half the time? It's another example of just having to do it because it's the right thing to do because you can't count on getting anything in return.
