More amateur headlines—and some tips
From yesterday's updates on the RGJ site:
"Wayne Newton takes year off for heart virus"—The article says he's taking off the rest of this year, or about six weeks, not a year.
From today's paper:
"Vasser Street US Bank robbed; suspect flees"—"Vassar" is spelled wrong in the article, too.
Free tips for the newbie editor: "McCarran" is spelled "McCarran," not "McCarren." Reno is in the Truckee Meadows, not Washoe Valley. The mountain range to our west is the Sierra Nevada, not the Sierra Nevadas. Recently arrived television reporters, weather people and anchors, you should be paying attention, too.
UPDATE 11/24/07: People in glass houses shouldn't throw stones. I just discovered I wrote in the previous paragraph that the Sierra Nevada is to the east of Reno. Of course it's to the west! I've just corrected it. Thank you for not being mean about it.
