What's the Green Onion?
I'm just curious—I was in the shopping center at South Virginia Street and Damonte Ranch Parkway today, and I saw an interesting storefront next to the AAA (auto association) office. The sign says "The Green Onion" and "SOUP SALAD BAKERY."
Is it a restaurant? Fast food? Take out? I haven't heard anything about it yet, and all you can see through the windows now is a pile of dirt.
I like soup, salad, and—above all—baked goods, so I'm hungry for the place to open already.

I finally had a chance to try the Green Onion the other day, and I'm sorry to say I was disappointed. Commenters had been saying it was all about healthy and fresh food, so I had very high expectations.I thought the menu was strange. It's a buffet. The salads looked good until I got to the canned fruits and the orange bacon bits. Those suddenly made me wonder if all the other toppings I had assumed were fresh were not fresh after all. I tried the chicken noodle soup, which may or may not have had any actual pieces ...

The Green Onion will be a soup and salad bar type of restaurant. The idea is for families and busy people on their lunch break to come in and eat a quick healthy meal as an alternative to fast food. I personally didn't hear anything on the bakery part of it, but will let you know if I do. From what one of the businessmen involved mentioned, the restaurant is hoped to be open by the end of the year.

Thanks for the info! It sounds great, and now I'm really looking forward to it.

It now has a huge sign saying, "NOW HIRING" however, there's no phone number posted, the website is old and there is no current Nevada information and it appears they are still building inside.
So...where should I go to apply?

Definitely not a good start. How can it be a good place if the owner is oblivious to details? I do appreciate the update.

As other mentioned, it is a sit down fast/casual restaurant with healthier food options. They will serve salads, soups, pasta, and baked goods. It sounds VERY similar to Sweet Tomatoes and Plutos, if you've ever been to either of those establishments. It's worth noting that The Green Onion is not a chain restaurant, unlike the aforementioned restaurants.

No, I haven't been to the others. I've really been looking forward to going to the Green Onion, although the previous comment has created a little doubt. I assumed it was a chain the first time I saw it but I wasn't able to find anything about it on the Internet, so your comment confirms my findings (or lack of findings). Thanks!

I tried the green onion last night. It was great. Fresh salads, soups, and pasta. The bakery part consists of fresh hot dinner rolls (wheat or white), garlic breadsticks, corn, chocolate and blueberry muffins. There were 3 already mixed salads, as well as a make your own salad bar. They had about every topping you could possibly add. Salads were House salad, caesar salad, and spicy asian chicken salad, DELICIOUS! Soups looked and tasted about as good as home made. I would like to bet they were. Roasted tomato soup, Sara's hot and sour soup, chicken enchilada, and baked potato soup. The pasta section consisted of penne and spaghetti. Choice of sauces were alfredo or marinara. Also, there was, I think it was, COLD pasta salad in the same area. Didn't try it. And last but not least, PIZZA. Simple cheese, not bad. And when you finish your meal, there is an ice cream machine, chocolate, swirl, and vanilla. Toppings were nuts, or oreo bits. Along with hot fudge or caramel to top it off.
I think we paid $10.99 for dinner per person last night. Not bad conisdering what is offered and it's all you can eat. As well as healthy. I hope this place stays standing, because I'm sick of Olive Garden all you can eat soup and salad!! haha.
Overall, the food was great. And it also wasn't left out for long periods of time. Everything was fresh.
Staff was very friendly and helpful, too. Bussers came by to pick up plates when we were through with each round.
I'm thinking about going back again tonight.

Thanks for the report and all the details! Believe it or not, we were trying to figure out a good place to go to dinner tonight and I was wishing the Green Onion would open soon. We ended up at Mimi's, where I had a half sandwich and a cup of soup. Next time it will be the Green Onion!

I just applied to the restaurant. They have application inside or you can fax your resume to (775) 853-1736. They said they are looking for day & night help and kitchen staff. It looks like a fun place to work. I asked about a website. They said since this is their first restaurant they do not have a website yet but are working on it. I hoped that helped!

Thanks for the info! I've been surprised at how much interest there has been in this place. A lot of us seem to be ready for fast, fresh, affordable, good food. I have to admit I haven't tried it yet, though.
